Marok is a young, ambitious band from Toulouse. The famous french newpaper Liberation
wrote: "The protagonists of Monk O'Marok play music that has a lot of references, while expressing very much ist own style. At the meeting point of jazz and world music (perfumes of the Orient, African roots and memories from Central Europe), this band enchants through the voice of their beautiful singer, surprises by ist musicality and often succeeds perfectly when it leaves place for improvisation".
The band started in 1998 as a trio and released, end of 98, a superb first album "Le Rêve de Monk" (Monk's Dream). Since 1999 singer Alima Hamel became an important part of the band. Her intergration was a step away from pure intstrumental songs and made their music more accessible.
With Monk O Marok's own words: "on this record you'll find: An algerian fairy tale, oriental jungle, speed turkish style, rumanian space, a decandent waltz, a limping tango, an indian traditional, an old French progressive dance, regressive jazz..." very alive and energetic music
